As of this morning, Henri has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane as it continues to approach Long Island and the Rockaways.
The forecast now includes peak wind gusts from 50 to 60 mph in western areas and 60 to 75 mph on the east end beginning Sunday morning.
This storm could cause severe damage, particularly on the east end. Some outages could last seven to 10 days, or, if Henri continues to strengthen and move farther west, up to 14 days. Learn more about our power restoration process here.
We are bringing in more than 3,300 additional line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors and other utility personnel from both on- and off-Island and are actively working to bring in more.
Report an outage using one of methods shown below. When there is severe damage, you may see a status of “Assessing Conditions,” before we can provide an Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR). This helps to ensure that when you receive an ETR, it is as accurate as possible.
Storm Safety
Assume any downed wire is a live electric wire. Stay at least 30 feet away and keep others away. Do not drive over a wire and do not touch anything contacting the wire. Wires can be hidden in standing water and storm debris. Report to us immediately at 1-800-490-0075 anytime.
Use a portable generator outdoors only. Never use one in an enclosed space, including an open garage, or near windows and vents.
Remain indoors if you see repair crews, but please practice physical distancing if you must speak with them.
